Home Up Our School Teaching Classes Community

August 30: Our final Book Week event was a celebration of the joy of reading. Teachers and students all came to school dressed as a character from their favourite book, and assembled in the hall for a fantastic character parade. All kinds of books were represented, from Harry Potter and Captain Underpants to Red Riding Hood, Snow White (and her two toy dwarves) and ‘Repulsive’(not to be confused with her prettier sister, Rapunzel). We ended the parade with a fun time dancing to the Scissor Sisters, and there was even a spontaneous conga line! Everyone made a great effort with their costumes and it was wonderful to see the diversity of books read and enjoyed throughout the school.

August 29: The Perform! group came to Brunswick South today as part of our annual Book Week celebrations. Their performance "Back to Beyond" featured several of this year's Children's Book Council Shortlisted Books: Amy & Louis, Chatterbox, The Arrival and Woolvs in the Sitee. The children were fascinated by the The Timekeeper and his mysterious hourglass, and really enjoyed following the adventures of Sam and Katie as they moved from book to book inside the Timekeeper's game. The performance also highlighted the importance of learning about the past and where we come from.

Thursday afternoons this month have been very busy, with the whole school getting together in the hall to rehearse our production of Quest: The Musical.  Everyone is very excited and really looking forward to the big night on September 4! Tickets are now available from the office. Information about costumes and rehearsals is also available in the newsletter.

August 3: Our annual Trivia Night was a great success and heaps of fun for all participants. Thank you to all those who worked so hard to make it a great evening: Carmen & Hamish, Georgia & Andrew, Kathy Prior, J & Pat, Sarah Ross & Stu James, Mel &Tom, Carlow & Armadeus, Samiro, Trish, Allison, Cate & Jacob, Lou, Maria, Trades Hall for the venue, all parents who donated goods & services and items for the hampers, and of course everyone who came and supported the school on the night. We raised $3555.95!!! These fundraising events help the school to support and fund projects like the orchard and the veggie garden, purchase more sporting equipment and generally make our school the wonderful place it is!
