August 29: Our annual Trivia Night was a great
success and heaps of fun for all participants. Thank you to all those who worked
so hard to make it a great evening: the teachers for hosting and making
the questions challenging (but fun), the
parents who donated goods & services and items for the hampers, and of course
everyone who came and supported the school on the night. The competition
was fierce! And for those who complained about Jenny's science and
science-fiction questions...now you have a year to study before next year's
quiz!
August 21: Our annual Book Parade was a fantastic way to celebrate Book
Week. Students and teachers came to school dressed as their favourite characters
and assembled in the hall for a character
parade. All kinds of books were represented, from Harry Potter and the various
Flower Fairies to Pippi Longstocking and some very hairy Twits. Everyone made a
great effort with their costumes and it was wonderful to see the diversity of
books read and enjoyed throughout the school.

August 15: The Brunswick South cheer squad
was out in force as the children from Grades 3-6 participated in the
Brunswick District Standardised Athletics day. The children competed in
five events: 100 metre sprint, long jump, high jump, shot put and
discus. Everyone tried their best and - despite the wet and chilly
conditions - maintained their enthusiasm throughout the day.
Congratulations to all participants and thanks to the teachers (Andy,
Jenny and Suzie) for training the children so well. |

August 14: Our very talented violin
students performed at a school concert tonight. The performances were
outstanding and a credit to our dedicated and highly-skilled violin
teacher, David Osborne. Two of Anna Robinson's piano students also
performed and Anna accompanied all the violinists on piano. We are
really proud of all our young musicians and thank them for a wonderful
evening. |

August 11:
The
Grade 3 students attended the Immigration Museum in Flinders Street
today, as part of their studies in Humanities and Civics and
Citizenship. |
|
They
first participated
in the Settlers Under Sail program, where they learnt about the
conditions of people immigrating to Australia from Europe in the 1800s
and early 1900s. They then went on a short walk looking at some
historical buildings in Melbourne, including Bennelong House and the
statues of Batman and Fawkner. In the afternoon they attended a
workshop on Journeys and Stories, where they explored the various boat
displays from three different eras of immigration to Australia. The
children had a great day! Thanks to Suzie (3U) for making history come
alive for the grade. |

August 4: We were delighted to have author
Adam Wallace visit each grade today. Adam read to the children from his
book "Better Out Than In" and also ran a drawing workshop based on his
"How to Draw" series. Adam's enthusiasm for writing, reading and drawing
totally captivated and inspired the children. Thank you to Andy (4/5A)
for arranging this fabulous visit. |
