August 28: Congratulations to all Grades 4-6 children who represented us so well at Championship Athletics. Thanks also to the cheer squad who encouraged and supported our team and to Andy A and Andy P for supervising our athletes. Good luck to those who are now going on to the Zone championships!

August 24: Today we celebrated Book Week with a fantastic hat parade, based on the theme "Book Safari". The preps and their big buddies had worked particularly hard to create a range of spectacular hats, which were proudly shown at Assembly. Thanks to all the children, from all grades, who participated and especially to the buddies for being such wonderful helpers to their younger friends.

August 24: There is always great excitement when members of the Fire Brigade come to visit for our annual Fire Education program! Today the firemen and women met with the Preps, who were given a tour of the Fire Truck and then had a turn with the fire hose!

August 19: 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy. To celebrate National Science Week, the Grades 3-6 children worked with the CSIRO on a range of experiments and activities aimed at increasing their understanding of rockets and space exploration. The children had a fantastic time launching Mylanta and marble rockets, powering a solar satellite, re-hydrating space food, working with space tools, investigating gravity and matching satellite images. They also learnt a great deal about the history of space exploration and the space race, and how rockets and shuttles are launched. It was a very enjoyable and informative session, and a great celebration of the work of astronauts and space scientists.

August 13: Congratulations to all our Grade 3-6 children for their enthusiastic participation in the Brunswick District Standardised Athletics competition. Everyone tried their best and had great fun competing with the other schools. Thanks to Rachel for organising the day and to the Grade 3-6 teachers for preparing our athletes for the competition.

August 11: The Grade 3 students spent the day in the city visiting the Immigration Museum and the Koorie Heritage Trust. The students participated in a variety of activities gaining knowledge of Immigration laws in Australia over time and a deeper understanding of why people have immigrated to other countries. At the Koorie Heritage Trust, the students also learnt about local Indigenous history and had a tour through the gallery.

August 8: A huge thank-you to everyone involved in the organisation of the Car Boot Sale and to everyone who came along. There were many treasures to be found, as well as face painting, delicious cakes and the always-popular sausage sizzle! It was a greatly enjoyable day. It was also very successful, with the school raising over $1500.
