Home Up Our School Teaching Classes Community

June 29: Our Junior School Council had the excellent idea to end Term 2 with a Pyjama Day to raise funds for sports equipment.  Everyone (including the teachers) looked very relaxed and ready for the holidays. Have a great break, everybody!

June 22: Our Family Film Night was a sell-out success! We sold over 200 tickets to "Shrek the Third" and packed the Palace Cinema, Westgarth. Everyone had a great night out, especially the children who danced in front of the screen at the end! Thank you to Marg (P/1RM) for organising this fun social event.

June 20: Lucy and Carmen took our wonderful choir to perform at the Northern Metropolitan School of Rock. It was a very exciting day for all involved, and a well-deserved reward for all their hard work. Over 50 schools took part in this year's performance, so it was a terrific experience for our singers. They looked fantastic in their choir t-shirts as well!

June 19: Brunswick South was jumping today, as all of our children took part in our annual Jump Rope for Heart "Jump Off Day". Our children love to skip, so this fundraiser for the National Heart Foundation is always very popular. As well as raising money through sponsorship, this year the children decided to donate their "thank you" prizes (a range of sports equipment) to refugee children. What a wonderful thing to do!

June 17: A huge thank you to all the families who helped out at our Working Bee. The grounds look wonderful, especially the new Grade 6 garden area. Thank you also to the parents who helped in the Library covering our many new books. Nearly half of our families came to the Working Bee, which is an amazing number and a great example of our strong community spirit.

June 5: The children in Grades Prep-2 became Rock Detectives for a day, following a visit from Minerals Education Victoria. The children participated in the "Sand, Stone and Clay" workshop, where they learnt about different kinds of rocks and their uses. The children were quite surprised to learn that they ate their cereal from a bowl made from a rock and that their talcum powder came from a rock as well! Thanks to Jenny (2J) for arranging this interesting incursion.
June 1: As part of our Reconciliation Week activities, the children in Grades 2-6 read the Anthony Hill story "The Burnt Stick". The teachers then made a small campfire so that the children could have their own burnt sticks for charcoal art work. The children also used coloured chalk to cover the asphalt section of the playground in symbols representing peace and reconciliation. Thanks to Rod (5/6R) for coordinating this thought-provoking activity.
