June 27: Our last day of Term 2. Happy holidays to
all!
June 11-12:
We were delighted to welcome Grades 4-6 from Port Melbourne and Tungamah Primary
Schools for the launch of our Forensic Science Project. This project has been
funded by a Federal Government grant through the Australian School Innovation in
Science, Technology and Mathematics program and will see the students from the
three schools working together on a range of science and ICT activities
throughout the second half of the year. On the first day of our launch, the
children met over a sausage sizzle then gathered in the hall for a fascinating
talk by Detective Sergeant Neal Leb from the Victoria Police Forensic Science
Centre. They also had a first look at our crime scene ("The case of the Missing
Millionaire") set up in the science room. The highlight of the second day was a
hands-on "Forensic Frenzy" incursion presented by the CSIRO (although the
children also enjoyed the pizza lunch)! We have many more exciting activities
planned for this project - watch out for more news!

June 11:
Congratulations to Gen and Andy (4/5A) on the birth of Zari! Born at
9.11pm, weighing 3.18kg - and at the football four days later! We're all
looking forward to meeting the gorgeous newborn and to having Andy back
at school towards the end of term. |

June 5: Today the children in Prep-2 went
to IMAX to see Bugs 3-D. From all accounts, it was a thrilling but scary
movie! Afterwards, the children visited the museum to see the Bugs
exhibition, as well as their favourite dinosaurs. And, as always,
a highlight of the day was the picnic lunch and play in the park! Thanks
to all the teachers and helpers who made this a very special day. |

June 3: Throughout Term 2, the children from 4/5A and 5/6J have been
visiting Princes Hill Secondary College each week to receive sports
coaching from Princes Hill Year 9 students. The focus has been on our
inter-school sports: netball, soccer and volley-catch. Today was the
final day of coaching, and concluded with a presentation of certificates
to all participants.
We
are very grateful to Monica and her students at Princes Hill for their
excellent coaching and to Andy, Jenny and Margaret for taking the
children to Princes Hill each week. |
| June 3: The 4/5A class
became sports coaches to the Prep/1 children today. The 4/5s created
their own games, then taught them to their little buddies. As well as
being a great sports activity, this gave the older children invaluable
leadership experience, and really tested their ability to give clear
instructions, manage a group of excited children and act like a teacher! |
