June 17: Throughout Term 2, the Grade 5
children have been involved in a Bike Education program. The program
aims to teach children the skills and confidence needed to ride safely
on our roads. Today the group went on a long ride along Merri Creek and
on to Ceres for a celebratory hot chocolate! It was wonderful to see all
the children - some of whom had never ridden a bike before the program -
cycling off so happily. Thank you to Andy for running this highly
successful and enjoyable program and to the teachers and helpers who
accompanied the children during the ride. |

June 15: The
Forensic Detectives of Grades 5-6 solved yet another crime today! As the final
activity in the ASISTM-funded Forensic Science project, the detectives (helped
by staff from the CSIRO) investigated a daring jewellery theft. The children
performed a range of experiments and used their brilliant deductive powers to
find the guilty person. More information about our fabulous Forensic Science
program can be found here. Thanks once again
to Jenny (5/6J) for winning the project grant and for making science so
exciting!
| June 15:
The Grade 3-4 children were also involved in scientific investigations
today. As a follow-up to their studies in environmental science, they
took part in the CSIRO program "Natural Disasters", which looked at
events occurring in the Earth's atmosphere, crust and mantle. Students
worked on a range of activities investigating plate tectonics, volcanic
eruptions, earthquakes, tsunami and tornadoes. It was a fantastic,
hands-on way to consolidate their knowledge. Thanks to Jenny for
organising the event and to Susie and Ellie for supervising our young
scientists. |

June 11: OzOpera visited the school today,
and treated the children to a hugely enjoyable performance of "The Sound
Garden", by Australian composer David Montgomery. The children laughed
and cheered all the way through, and were delighted by the combination
of traditional opera, percussion and dance. The annual performance by
OzOpera is one of the highlights of our music program, and is a
wonderful introduction to some of the world's most popular operas. Thank
you to Lucy for organising the visit and for providing such a
stimulating music program for the school. |
