March 27:
Today all children participated in the World of Maths Incursion.
There were many
different activities and games for the children to explore and it was
great to see them using several techniques, communicating so well with
each other and genuinely having fun.
The activities provided opportunities to identify geometric properties,
discover number patterns and explore a variety of problems. A big thank
you to all the teachers and students for participating with such energy
and to Suzie (3S) for organising the day. |

March 25: National Ride to School Day 2009 was an
amazing success. So many children dressed up and looked so incredibly colourful
and happy on their bikes, scooters, skateboards and skates. Over the past three
years we have tripled the number of children using Active Transport to come to
school! Thanks to Andy (4/5AR) for organising the day and leading our school's
Bike Education program (and, with Rachel (4/5AR) for cooking hundreds of
pancakes for hungry riders on the day)!
March 18-20: The Grade
5-6 children enjoyed a fantastic 3-day camp
at Eastern Hill, Creswick. The camp had a history theme and included a full-day
visit to Sovereign Hill, an evening performance of "Blood on the Southern Cross"
and a tour of the Australasia Mine Number 2, the site of Australia's greatest
mining disaster. The children also explored the Tangled Maze (and enjoyed an
afternoon of mini-golf), participated in a talent show and spent time enjoying the
camp's many outdoor facilities, including a flying fox, trampoline and low
rope/tyre course.
Thanks to the teachers (Andy, Jenny and Rachel) and the wonderful Holly at
Eastern Hill for making this such a successful event.

March 12: The Grade 1/2 children visited
the Melbourne Aquarium today, as part of their study of oceans and
marine life. They had a wonderful time and were particularly excited by
the new Antarctica exhibit, which features both King and Gentoo
penguins. |

"We saw King Penguins and Gentoo
penguins. They were cute. The King penguins were walking in a line. Some of them
went swimming. They were funny because they waddled. They were also jumping in
the water. They looked cool. Some of them waddled sideways. We saw some eat
fish. We thought they were really great! Lochy saw one peck its foot. Milo saw
one pecking the ice. Some people saw them excrete. They walked up the ramp and
slid down on their bellies. Some people were trying to get the penguins'
attention by putting their fingers on the glass. Then the penguins followed the
fingers." Thanks to Andy P, Narelle and Ursula (the Grade 1/2 teachers)
for arranging the visit.
