Home Up Our School Teaching Classes Community

May 26: OzOpera visited the school today, and treated the children to a hugely enjoyable performance of Rossini's Cinderella. The children laughed and cheered all the way through, as well as humming along to the music. The annual performance by OzOpera is one of the highlights of our music program, and is a wonderful introduction to some of the world's most popular operas. Thank you to Lucy for organising the visit and for providing such a stimulating music program for the school.
May 19-23: Education Week was full of activity, including our annual Book Fair, our Open Day, a Friend's Morning Tea and special activities for the children each lunchtime. The Book Fair was our most successful ever, with the school receiving over $1000 worth of new books for the library as our percentage of sales. Thank you to all of our avid readers for achieving this wonderful result.

Our Open Day was also a great success, with many families touring the school during the day and joining us for the information session and tour in the evening. It was great to see so many families interested in our school, and fun to meet so many curious 4-year-olds! Thank you to the Grade 5/6J children, who acted as tour guides throughout the day, and to the parents and children who spoke so positively about our school at the evening session.

A final thank you to all the families and friends who attended our Friends Morning Tea and brought such a delicious feast for us to share!

May 14: Today Grade 2U went for an autumn walk along Merri Creek. The weather was beautiful and everything went well. It was a long walk but the children had a great time; collecting autumn leaves, looking at ducks, listening to the birds and being out in the sunshine! Thank you to Ursula and Cate for taking the children out in the fine weather and for helping them to appreciate our local environment.

May 12: Grades 3S and 4/5A had a very successful shopping trip to Barkley Square. Each child had $2.00 to pool with others, in order to buy a healthy lunch. This involved working out a menu and a budget, comparing prices at different stores, and calculating the total cost. The children were then able to purchase their own food, which was eaten at a picnic lunch. The children had a wonderful time, and many were unaware that they were actually doing quite complicated maths! Thanks to Andy, Cate and Suzie for organising this very enjoyable practical maths activity.
May 6: The Grades Prep-3 were hugely entertained today by The Amazing Drumming Monkeys. The show featured lively drumming music, songs, dances, magic tricks and interactive musical numbers. The kids loved it and are still able to respond to the music and perform the movements with enthusiasm! Thank you Lucy for arranging the incursion and for making our Performing Arts program so interesting.
May 2:  About 40 of our students from Grade 2-6 went to see internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Jon Weber perform at Federation Square, as part of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Students thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment and quiz style questioning of Jon Weber’s interaction with them. Some even gained a few dollars!  Students were accompanied by many enthusiastic parents, and by Judy T and Suzie.  They caught the number one tram to and from the venue and, luckily, were not caught in the rain and hail storms that day.
