May 27: We are very proud of Tess and Oscar
(Grade 4) for representing our school at the Inner Northern Region
Italian Poetry competition, held at Spensley St Primary School. Their
poem was ‘La Bandiera
Italiana’ by Rosaria Rossi. This is the first year that we have entered
the competition and we are delighted that so many children wished to
represent our school.Thank you to Lucy for her excellent Italian
program and for supervising and supporting Tess and Oscar at this
special event. |

May 26: The Grades 3-6 children have been
participating in a 6-week Multicultural program run by the Carlton
Football Club. Today they visited the MCG and National Sports Museum,
tried out various sports in the "Game On" room and toured the grounds.
Did you know that the MCG uses peregrine falcons to scare pigeons and
seagulls away from the grass? Or that the players' rooms below the
grounds are rather...smelly? Thanks to Rachel for organising the program
and to Andy, Ellie, Jenny and Shaun for supervising the children on the
day. |

18-22: Education Week was full of activity, including our annual Book Fair,
our Open Day, a Friend's Morning Tea and special activities for the children
each lunchtime. The Book Fair was very successful, with the school receiving
over $900 worth of new books for the library as our percentage of sales. Thank
you to all of our avid readers for achieving this wonderful result. Our Open Day
was also a great success, with many families touring the school during the day
and joining us for the information session and tour in the evening. It was great
to see so many families interested in our school, and fun to meet so many
curious 4-year-olds! Thank you to the Grade 5/6J children, who acted as tour
guides throughout the day, and to the parents and children who spoke so
positively about our school at the evening session. A final thank you to all the
families and friends who attended our Friends Morning Tea and brought such a
delicious feast for us to share!

May 15:
Today we were privileged to
witness the most vibrant, energetic and engaging performance by WALA, an
African percussion/ dance group from Ghana. Children were given
the opportunity to dance and play instruments, and Dario performed a
solo. The whole school rocked along and even the staff had a go! Thanks
to Lucy for arranging this brilliant and memorable performance. |
